Serpentine belt is a single continuous belt used to drive multiple peripheral devices in Toyota Prius engine, such as an alternator, power steering pump, water pump, air conditioning compressor etc. The belt also guided by an idler pulley and a belt tensioner. Due to frictional forces, heat accumulation deteriorates the drive belt over time and can sometimes be diagnosed as a “squeaking” noise from the engine compartment.
